This Blogging Life

Until about three years ago I had never even heard of a blog.  It wasn’t until I read a book, Bitter is the New Black, by Jen Lancaster that I discovered the blogosphere.  Wanting more of Lancaster’s sarcastic wit I found her blog and was instantly hooked.  After a few weeks I began to think, “I can do this too!” and set out writing about my daily adventures as a pregnant woman working in an office of mostly men who uttered such classic lines as, “You’re looking really stripey today,” when I would wear um… a striped sweater.  Their unsolicited and down right bizarre questions about pregnancy could not be kept to myself. Can pregnant women eat brownies? As long as they aren’t “special” brownies right?

Now, three years later this is my job.  I blog for a living and still wake up and wonder how in the world it is even possible.  This career path did not even exist five years ago and this week I’m test driving a car for Chevy, eating Funky banana treats, slathering myself with a glycolic serum while discussing breast pumps with Playtex and all in the name of blogging.  What started out as something to ease stress, amuse friends and family while practicing my writing skills has now ballooned into a world I find that I do not just love but am also addicted to.  While not everyone I know understands just how it all works or what exactly it is that bloggers do I’ve found my stride and gotten my confidence back. That confidence being something I had lost in the world of pricing widgets in the defense world.

Blogging has not only opened up a new world and avenue of creativity for me but provided fun memories for my friends and family to take part in, brought new friends and co-workers into my life and given me a sense of self I had lost somewhere along the way.
