Utopia Bamboo Memory Foam Mattress

bed Utopia Bamboo Memory Foam MattressWe all obsess about organic food (some more than others), lead free toys, and non-toxic house cleaners, but there is rarely a discussion about the mattresses our children sleep on.  Most mattresses DO contain untested toxins, which is scary considering an average child spends 10-12 hours a night sleeping in their bed. In our house, many of those hours are spent in mommy and daddy’s bed.  I wouldn’t call it an official Family Bed, but the kids have definitely claimed our bed as their own.  Whether it’s watching TV in the evening, climbing between us in the middle of the night or an early morning cuddle, our family is spending an awful lot of time on top of a big rectangle piece of manmade material.  Shouldn’t we make sure that it’s just as safe as everything else in our house?

When my husband and I were in the market for a new mattress, the top of our list was safety.  Safety and memory foam because who doesn’t want that!  That’s when we discovered Utopia mattresses. Not only are their mattresses made of advanced pressure-relieving memory foam, but they are also certified Skin-friendly, Hypoallergenic and Safe!

All of the Utopia mattresses were tested and earned certification by the Hohenstein institute and CertiPUR-US. Which means they do NOT contain any substances that are known to be harmful to humans such as Phthalates and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDEs) as other mattress companies might.  I don’t know about you, but I do not want to be sleeping on any of that stuff.  Their Class 1 rating means the foam is safe for babies and toddlers less than 3 years of age.  They had me sold even before I tried it out!

We received the Utopia Bamboo mattress on our doorstep in a tall skinny box.  I was skeptical as it did not look big enough to fit a King mattress inside.  We were instructed to cut the covering in the room we wanted our bed to be in.  I’m glad we listened because within minutes (with a big whoosh!) the decompressed mattress opened up.  The kids loved the show.

You probably think bamboo isn’t something you want to sleep on. You’re thinking of the hard-stemmed plant. However, made into a fabric, bamboo fabric is a softer than any other fabric you can imagine.  Coupled with an extra 2” of support foam, this bed was beyond comfortable.  That night it was confirmed.  We slept like babies.  Like babies that actually sleep through the night!  The memory foam was the perfect balance of support and cushioning.  It was a great deep CLEAN sleep.  I couldn’t believe the inferior mattress I had been sleeping on for so long.

There’s no question, getting a good night’s sleep makes a big difference in how your day goes.  I woke up after the first night on my Utopia Mattress with a spring in my step and a whole new attitude on life.  Which lasted until my son spilled syrup all over the couch.  But hey I’ll take what I can get.

Another advantage (as if it needs any more) is the cost.  Starting at $569 for a twin the Utopia Bamboo is extremely affordable.  Most importantly though, now the whole family can laze around in our bed and I know that we’re not breathing in toxic chemicals.  That to me is priceless!
