Baby Jogger Summit XC Single Stroller, Sand_Black_ BabyI’ve always loved running; I find that it keeps me calm, gives me energy and is the best-kept secret to finding sanity. In the past, going for a run was an easy undertaking, as simple as lacing up my sneakers, grabbing my ipod and securing a fresh bottle of water to my armband. But with the birth of my son, that all changed. No longer were my days of “fitting in a quick workout” between errands. The only jogging I was doing was up and down the stairs, carrying loads of dirty onesies.

I had just about given up on the idea of returning to my days of hitting the pavement when my husband suggested I try a baby jogging stroller. Of course at first I scoffed at the thought. After all, what I loved most about running was the ease in which I could do it, no hassle, just me and my thoughts, pure freedom. The idea of having to push a huge piece of machinery was less than appealing. None-the-less, my curiosity got the best of me and I found myself surfing the web, researching various fitness strollers, convinced I would find only naysayers. To my surprise, not only were there tons of great responses to the world of baby joggers, but there was one stroller that seem to stand out from the rest.

And so, on one sunny Saturday morning, my Baby Jogger Summit XC arrived at my front door, ready for action. The moment I took my first running steps with the Summit XC, I immediately felt regret—regret that I hadn’t gotten this stroller sooner!!!! Never in a million years did I think pushing a jogging stroller could be this easy. And for many reasons, the Baby Jogger has far surpassed my expectations.

First off, don’t be tricked by the name, “Baby Jogger”—This stroller is a fantastic multi-purpose stroller than can be used for walks around your neighborhood, in the city, as well as for running and jogging. No matter where I take it, my jogger always feels completely stable. The shocks are amazing because they are on every stroller wheel (as opposed to the Bob Jogging Stroller that has only rear wheel suspension). I’m able to push it over grass, dirt, bumps, sidewalks, and I’m even able to lock the front wheel into a fixed position for an even more steady ride over rough terrain. All of this, while my son rides relaxed and at ease.

The front swivel wheel makes the stroller easy to navigate, allowing me to push it using only one hand. With one small steer, I’m able to turn the jogger around sharp curves as well as miss those pesky squirrels that get in my way!

Another great feature of the Summit XC is the hand-break and safety strap that goes around my hand—it gives me amazing control when on the move. The hand-operated rear drum brakes allows for increased control on any terrain, especially when running fast, and makes slowing down the stroller very, very easy. Also, it has a foot brake so that you can engage the brake and then leave without it rolling away.

While most jogging strollers aren’t suited for infants, that is not the case with the Summit XC-This Baby Jogger is designed to accommodate a baby from birth. The padded seat reclines to a near flat position, while the adjustable 5-point safety harness and shoulder pads ensure an extra snug fit for your baby.

With the purchase of the Car Seat Adapter, the Summit XC single is compatible with most popular car seats including:

* Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30
* Chicco Key Fit
* Chicco Key Fit 30
* Maxi Cosi Mico
* Graco SnugRide
* Graco SnugRide 32
* Evenflo infant car seats

Living in sunny California, a big concern for me was how much sun exposure would be hitting my baby’s face. Rest assured, the sun canopy on the Summit XC is huge, providing complete shade and able to open at multiple positions. It has a smallish “peek-a-boo” window on top that secures easily with Velcro, and two ventilation windows on the side. This vented cabin keeps my baby cool on those extra hot days!

But even with all of these great features, I would say one of my favorites is the ease in which I’m able to close the Baby Jogger. Any mom knows what a pain in the butt it can be when you’re trying to hold your baby in one hand and close a stroller in the other. The Quick-Fold technology lets you collapse the stroller with one hand, (so you can hold your kid with the other) in just a few seconds. Transporting the stroller is also very convenient due to the lightweight aluminum frame and also, once the Summit is closed, it’s extremely compact, making it simple to fit into any size trunk.

When I say that the Summit XC Baby Jogger changed my life, I’m not exaggerating. One of the biggest obstacles I faced when having a child was feeling that loss of freedom. Something as simple as being able to go for a jog, and not having to leave my baby behind, has given me the ability to do something for myself; something that I’ve always loved to do. Ah yes, that sunny Saturday morning when my Baby Jogger arrived at my doorstep will always be the day that I finally got my groove back!
