Beaba Babycook

Beaba 150x141 Beaba BabycookI have to admit; I’m a pretty bad cook. For years, I’ve attempted to take it on as a new found hobby, convincing myself that I’d enjoy it once I was good at it. I bought countless books, I read recipes online, I even watched the food network. But every time I would decide to “whip” up some dinner, I’d think about the daunting task of preparation and then cleanup. Quitting before even starting, I started to notice my shiny steel pots collecting dust and the takeout menus piling up in my kitchen drawer. I finally decided that cooking just wasn’t for me.

So, you can imagine my reaction when my best friend mentioned that she makes her own baby food using the Beaba Babycook. I consider myself to be a good mother, and may lightening strike me down if this is wrong, but I almost gagged. As a mother of two kids, (one of them only four months old), I couldn’t think of anything more excruciating. Why, oh why, would someone choose to take the time to blend their own baby food when you can go and buy those pretty little, tiny jars at the market and call it a day? I mean, a pea is a pea, right?

Our conversation left me wondering and then soon, obsessing. As a healthy eater myself, always choosing to eat and buy organic whenever possible, I began to think about the concept of cooking natural, homemade, pureed food vs. spoon feeding my child a jar of mystery mush with who knows what inside! After all, if I care about what I’m putting into my own body, why would I deprive my child of that same right?! Maybe I was imagining it, but I at that very moment I could’ve sworn I heard a clap of thunder. Within minutes, I was online ordering the Beaba Babycook.

I’ve had the Babycook for two months now and would honestly recommend for every mother to purchase this product. For starters, it is seriously the easiest, most effortless machine to use. For someone who absolutely HATES (and I mean hates) to take the time to cook, this machine has not only made cooking kind of fun, but has made it so simple and so fast.

The actual technology of the machine is very smart. The Babycook combines a defroster, steamer, warmer and blender all into one efficient and compact appliance. So, rather than having to use several different pieces of equipment to make one meal, all you’ll need is your Beaba. The babycook starts by steam cooking the food for roughly 15 minutes, while preserving all of the vitamins and flavors, and then purees or blends them to your desired consistency.

Best of all, it doesn’t take any brain surgery to come up with creative meals for your child. Think beyond just veges and fruit when dreaming of what to blend, because this machine can do it all, including fish, meats, grains, you name it. Sometimes I’ll even get creative with what I blend, depending on what phase my child is in. Lately, my daughter refuses to eat vegetables, so I’ve gotten sneaky. I’ll take pineapple and mix it with broccoli and she’s yet to catch on!

In my opinion, the most useful function of the Beaba is the defrosting function. Let’s not forget, I don’t like to cook, so with the ability to freeze your baby food for up to one week, this allows me to stock up on fresh batches of homemade goodies without having to make it everyday. I make sure to make enough food to last for a few days at a time and when I’m ready to feed my baby, I simply pull out the frozen stored container, toss it in my Beaba, use the defroster feature and Voila!

Now, as I said before, I really dislike the whole cleanup routine of cooking, but with the Beaba, it’s really not bad at all! When you’re finished using it, clean-up is as simple as throwing the bowl and cooking basket into the dishwasher and wiping down the base unit with a wet cloth. I think I can handle that?

On a side note, (but a very important note), I’ve actually saved a ton of money by using the Beaba. Jarred baby food costs over a dollar per jar and that adds up! Eliminating that from my grocery list has in fact saved me at the store each week.

I know that mothers are constantly bombarded with endless amounts of merchandise, told to buy this and buy that. But I can honestly say that the Beaba Babycook is a key product to add to your kitchen inventory. Taking up practically no space on your counter top, it can be tucked away and used as little as two times a week, providing you with enough food to last you days. In just a matter of minutes, I’ve been able to give my child the healthiest, most nutritional meals that are packed with vitamins. If only ALL cooking could be this easy?
