Freckleface Strawberry smallIf you’re looking for a fun, hip kid-appropriate musical to take the whole family to see, look no further than Freckleface Strawberry The Musical. The new show is based on the popular Freckleface Strawberry book series written by that famous, red-haired, freckled actress Julianne Moore and illustrated LeUyen Pham.

The endearing books follow the adventures of ‘Strawberry’ who is nicknamed Freckleface Strawberry by her friends. She is a young girl who loves her friends, likes school and has a lot of fun. But, when she realizes that her freckles make her ‘different,’ she becomes self-conscious and tries to rid herself of her freckles in some creative ways. When she fails to ‘scrub them off,’ she hides from her friends. Eventually, Strawberry realizes that all her friends have something that makes them unique and different from each other and understands that this is what makes them who they are.

A great message for kids, my 9-year old son liked the show and said, “Mom, that was cool.’ When I asked him what he thought the moral of the show was, he said, ‘that’s easy…it’s about respecting yourself and accepting who you are.’ I thought that was ‘cool.’

There are lots of fun, upbeat, musical numbers throughout the show. My 7-year old daughter loved the pop-like, Lady Gaga music number. Even my 3-year old got into the groove. There were children of all ages, Moms and Dads and even grandparents at the performance, and everyone seemed to be having a great time! Freckleface Strawberry The Musical can be seen at the Manhattan Movement and Arts c Center at 248 W. 60th Street. For information, go to and for tickets, visit
